Water, Sanitation, & Hygiene Program for Climate Change Affected People

Climate change has a tremendous negative impact on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services. The changes in climate increase the severity of extreme events that cause illness, death and displacement of people, and disruption to services. Longer-term changes in average temperatures, precipitation, and rising sea-levels will amplify threats that are already being felt.

Access to WASH services and the practice of hygienic behaviours are central to building health resilience to climate and to help societies cope with extreme events and support their recovery in the long term. This can also support the ability to cope with slower-onset events by preventing disease and ensuring adequate hydration with increasing temperatures.

GFI helps the affected communities in construction of innovative environment friendly economical removable long run latrine; deep tube well installation for  those affected by the high-level salinity in the water caused by the climate change in coastal regions; and in promoting access to safe water and improved sanitation in other regions indirectly affected by climate change.
