Green Fund Initiative

School Library for Vulnerable Kids

During a visit to a school in Bangladesh last January, the school kids expressed a desire for a library but lacked essential resources like books and furniture. To address this, we aim to establish a fully functional school library in a climate change-affected area of Bangladesh. This initiative will provide educational resources, promote literacy, and serve as a vital learning hub. By fostering a conducive learning environment, we empower children with knowledge and skills.

Many schools in climate change affected areas lack access to adequate educational materials, including books and digital resources, due to limited funding and infrastructure. There is high levels of poverty and environmental challenges often result in low literacy rates among children in these areas, further exacerbating the cycle of poverty and vulnerability. Moreover, Climate change exacerbates existing challenges in education by disrupting school infrastructure, affecting student attendance.

The project will involve setting up a well-equipped library within a selected school, stocked with a diverse collection of books, educational materials, and digital resources. Training sessions will be conducted for teachers and librarians on library management, literacy promotion, and integrating climate change education into the curriculum. The project will engage parents, community members, and local authorities to raise awareness about the importance of education.

The establishment of a school library will provide students with access to a wide range of educational resources, empowering them to pursue knowledge and academic excellence. By promoting reading habits and literacy skills, the project will contribute to improved learning outcomes and academic performance among students. Integrating climate change education into the curriculum will equip students with knowledge and skills to understand, adapt to, and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
