The fishing cat, Prionailurus viverrinus, is an elusive wild feline classified as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List and Endangered in its range countries. Known for their aquatic prowess, fishing cats face threats like habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, and illegal trade, endangering their existence. Bangladesh emerges as a pivotal nation for fishing cat conservation. Partnering with local organizations, GFI strives to safeguard these cats. Our project prioritizes identifying critical habitats, establishing protected areas, and restoring habitats with community and government collaboration. We raise awareness, mitigate conflict, and promote sustainable practices. Through research and training, we aim for a comprehensive approach to ensure the survival of fishing cats across their range countries, fostering a future where they thrive in their natural habitats.
